Kayak the Whanganui River

Whether you are staying with us here at Whanganui River TOP 10 Holiday Park, you are a local , or you're just passing through, why not take the opportunity to experience the Whanganui River up close and personal in all her glory?

Whanganui River TOP 10 Holiday Park is the only place in town where you can hire a kayak for a journey down the beautiful Whanganui River.

If you time it right with the tides (and we will happily help you get the timing right), you could take the kayak for half a day. launch from the boat ramp when the tide is coming in, paddle up to Mosquito point for a picnic, or stop off for a coffee and hearty meal at Behind The Door On 4 café or at the Riverboat Bar and Café  in Upokongaro, then paddle back once the tide has turned. What a fun way to spend 4 hours!

Or we can take you 5km or 8km up river and leave you to spend a leisurely hour or three exploring the river as you paddle back to the park. We take you in the same direction as the tide, so if you don't want to exert too much effort you can just relax, enjoying the scenery and let the river gently bring you back herself. Whilst these trips can take as little as one hour, there's no rush, take your time.

Double or single kayaks are available.

Life vests are provided along with safety instructions. (please note our smallest life vest fits an average 5 yr old)

Guests, park visitors and passers by are all welcome to hire kayaks - just call us on 06 343 8402 to book your kayak, or pop into reception.
Advance bookings are highly recommended to avoid disappointment and to arrange your trip around the tides.
